Here for your delectation is the SPECTACULAR & RARE------------------DIZZY GILLESPIE: THE EBULLIENT MR. GILLESPIE LPThe cover is a cool one, it shows Dizzy as he was, a smiling unpredictable genius. By the way I believe, this album has never been released in cd format. This is Dizzy from the fifties and sixties when he still was in top form. In particular in the sixties while other palyers followed different routes (modal, free, hard bop, mainstream etc) Dizzy played HIS music, and majestic jazz trumpet, scat a little here and there and played with his "goofy" personality choosing peculiar songs which his showmanship without boundaries. The results are often exilarating but of the highest musical significance at the same time. Some people tend to overlook Dizzy in the sixties because it was the time of Jazz intellectualism, minimalism I may say and because Miles was the man on the biggest wave (Dizzy's style has always been highly intellectual, but many people in the sixties tended to take it for granted and went for the things that appeared to be more modern. Dizzy chose a different path. He could do whatever he wanted of course, but as the giant he was, he chose to remain himself, he chose to maintain his style intact, but not because he refused to evolve. Simply because his style already had everything! He played the noble father of Jazz role but he was, remember this, the number one trumpet player and probably one of the four or five greatest Jazz musicians ever in terms of contributions. The Ebullient album is an album Dizzy recorded with the small band composed ofJunior Mance at the piano, Les Spann guitar and flute, Sam Jones double bass, Lex Humpries drums. The combo works great! The program is very funny but very serious if you listen carefully. Just like Diz was, a funny man, but under the goofy personality there was a very deep musician, a Jazz King. The first tune is Swing low Sweet Cadillac and Dizzy pays a tribute to mother Africa, playing with some words, doing imitations of birds, and indulging in his impressive vocal vocabulary, showing a monster ability to use dynamics! Impressive for real! Then a beautiful mid tempo, Always, you know the melody. Splendid version! Willow weep for me is a wonderful version of the tune. Ungawa is a latin tune one of the goofy numbers of this collection (but, don't forget, with stellar trumpet work by Diz) together with the closing number the Umbrella man which Dizzy sings in his unpredictable unique way. Lorraine and Girl of my dreams are two beautiful standard melodies and Constantinople is a slow blues. This a very, very nice title to add to any Dizzy collection.MGV 8328 Dizzy Gillespie - The Ebullient Mr. GillespieDizzy Gillespie (tp, vo) Junior Mance (p) Les Spann (g, fl) Sam Jones (b) Lex Humphries (d) Carlos "Patato" Valdes (cga)NYC, February 17, 195922711-5Girl Of My Dreams22715Ungawasame personnelNYC, February 18, 195922718-1Swing Low, Sweet Cadillac22720-1Willow Weep For Me22721-5The Umbrella Mansame personnelNYC, February 20, 195922723-1Constantinople22726-2LorraineHIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!This is theoriginalVERVE MGV-8328record.Other than a small bottom seam split onthe cover and a light scratch on side 2 under normal lightthat probably doesn't affect play, the record is in very good condition(see photo). Check my feedback to see that I sell exactly as I describe. So buy now to own this magnificent, impossible-to-findRECORD COLLECTIBLE.**A NOTE TO PROSPECTIVE RECORD BUYERS** Despite my attempt to keep my ads informative, yet as simple and uncomplicated as possible, I have realized that record purchasers are another “breed” entirely. As a result, I am deluged with questions both bizarre, and occasionally frivolous. I have even received a “warning” prior to shipment to a winning buyder telling me exactly what he expected----or else! I therefore find it necessary to include this explanation of what to expect from me should you choose tobuy this or any of my other listed records. To begin, all of these records come from my personal collection. I bought most of them in the 1960’s in new condition—although some came from close-out bins. Almost every one has been played only once or twice (it is a huge collection—how many times could I listen to them?!) Being a collector, I also took extremely good care of them. On the other hand, I was, and am, completely UNKNOWLEDGEABLE about details that “real” collectors have. To begin with, the term “excellent” describes the fact that I looked at the record under a normal lamp light and did not see obvious flaws. If I notice a scratch, I will mention it. I also will say a cover is “perfect” unless I see obvious tears or major stains. I say “original” because most were purchased 50-odd years ago and I want to distinguish them from newer releases---on the other hand, I have no knowledge of dates of pressings. And now, to the most important part---I have noticed other record sellers posting huge disclaimers discussing the scurrilous practices of some buyers, such as “switching” records that they purchase for others of the same title that they already own that are in considerably worse condition. Or, purchasing a record, and trying to negotiate a lower price after receipt of the merchandise with a threat of negative feedback. I am also sure that there are less-than-honest sellers out there. My position is simply this---my positive feedback speaks for itself----I try to sell exactly what I describe---within the parameters of my own knowledge. If my ad does not include information you require, please ask before you buy and I will try to answer promptly and to the best of my ability. If I cannot—don’t buy! Also, always understand that you are purchasing a used record---records are known to have clicks, pops, distortions, even occasional slight warping. They had these flaws when I purchased them. If it did not affect their play, I was not concerned. I was listening to the music. If you are expecting perfect sound----buy the CD! I even stupidly accepted return of a record that I was told was not an original, only to re-sell it to a collector who said it certainly was an original. I presume the original buyer recorded it, since it was not available on CD. Those days are over for me. If youbuy it, you own it. Everything I mail is sent wrapped in bubble pack and special (expensive) record mailers. I aim to please---as my feedback shows---but if you want to see or hear your record before buying, please go to a record store---not eCRATER.
